Teaching blacksmithing to the next generation.

This week Brad will begin teaching blacksmithing to year 10 students at the Perth Waldorf Steiner School.

The program will cover safety, using charcoal forges, the fundamentals of moving metal, artistic metal work, and hopefully end with making some tooling that can then be heat treated to be used in other classes.

This is a rare opportunity, as blacksmithing has been removed from the mainstream schooling system as it is deemed too dangerous by the “powers that be”. Any subject can be dangerous without the correct tuition. I have personally witnessed several casualties regarding calculators and their incorrect use. Nonetheless safety will be paramount.

I hope all involved gain a valuable experience from this.
